When it comes to the great outdoors, you have many materials to choose from for building and creating structures such as driveways, walkways and even patios.  One very versatile option is block paving.  By using this method to create driveways, walkways and pathways, you have many design options available to you and the process of installation is one that you can even do on your own if you have the time and patience, along with a little know-how.

This paving method basically meets the expectations of its name.  You pave a surface using some type of block.  This can range from basic concrete blocks to bricks or other paving stones.  The blocks you use can be very basic in style or can be very decorative.  They can be large or small and they can come in almost any type of shape.  The main difference between this method and other typical methods of paving is that each block is individually laid in place and can be designed in a myriad of patterns, as opposed to a solid continuous surface that is what is used in other paving methods.

You can create an interesting look to driveways, walkways, and pathways using this method of paving.  You can create basket weave patterns, herringbone patterns, stiped patterns, box patterns and more.  You can combine shapes and sizes of blocks to create an intricate design or can keep them all uniform throughout the entire surface.  You have many design options at your fingertips and can choose to do almost anything you want to create the look you want.

Using some form of block materials to create your driveway or walkway also gives you a more natural feel than a solid surface of concrete or asphalt.  The blocks can be set in sand and provide a more textured and natural look.
