Many people wonder why they may need to have their attic stairs insulated. Often times attics are not properly protected which can cause numerous problems.

One great benefit to having this insulation is the money it will save on your homes heating and cooling costs. Having no insulation can cause you to lose heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. This loss can greatly increase your gas and electric bill, which in turn will cause you to use more energy than needed in your home. The small gaps can greatly increase airflow back into your home, which you do not want to occur. Another issue that could arise is the moisture from the attic getting into rooms and causing mold damage.

If you were constructing a new home, you would want to build an attic to where there is no air conditioning or heat needed. Such places would be your garage or a covered porch. This will allow you to use less insulation, which can save you time and money. If your home is already built with an attic, then you will need to determine what is the right type protection needed. Once you have walked up the stairs to the attic, you will need to measure the opening. Once measured, cut four pieces of foam board and tape them together with foil tape on each side. Then you will want to put weather stripping on top of the frame to the attic. Then you simply put the box over top of the opening and you are done.

There are videos online that will show you just how to do this quick and easy project. Only a few materials are needed. If your attic stairs insulation is missing or ruined, you need to fix it immediately. This will help you save money and any water damage in the future.
