One popular solution is using furniture with multiple purposes. Smart designs like futons, can actually be converted from one item to another easily, thereby taking up a lot less space. These dual-functioning pieces of furniture are highly popular in smaller homes.

Another option is storage compartments with multi-layer and interior shelving. Look for items that have primarily enclosed space. These can help small spaces to look less cluttered by allowing household goods and electronics to be hidden away easily. The less clutter you have in a small area, the more open your place will feel. Staying organized and having hidden storage is a great way to achieve this less-cluttered look.

Single beds and bunk beds are a good way to get the most out of your small space. Depending on your needs you may want to consider changing from a standard mattress to a single to allow for more movement around your bedroom space.

With the use of lighting and mirrors, you can also open up a small space. The more natural light you can let into the space, the better. Try using lighter colors as well, for paint to brighten and widen a space. Darker colors have a narrowing and enclosing effect, whereas brighter, lighter colors tend to open the area up. If you are a big fan of bolder colors, just try using a neutral color scheme on the walls with hints of color in fabric treatments and decorations. You don’t need to have color all-over to make an impact. With just a few splashes of color here and there, you can achieve the effect you are looking for without making your small space feel more confined.
