Rule #1. The most important point to note is that children change their minds very often. So you want to pick a neutral design with as few decorations as possible. • Even if you do not replace the back with a different material, make sure to secure the back with some additional nails or even small screws.  Again, the manufacturers often send these wimpy, tiny brads that will come loose after a couple moves of the DVD cabinet.  Larger nails or screws should keep it secured.
• When assembling the rest of the sides of your cabinet, use wood glue in any of the dowel holes to have a very permanent fit.  I doubt you are planning to take this apart in the future so why not make it secure?
• Add a bead of wood glue to the butt joints on the bottom and top of the cabinet on the inside so that you can’t see it.
• Just like the back, if possible add some larger screws to strategic points that can be hidden underneath to give the entire wood CD storage cabinet a lot more strength and durability.

Roofing felt is the type of garage roofing material which must be laid out on decking – mostly made of plywood these days. That is because it cannot support its own weight properly. Two types of felt are used, one is called underlay – this is obviously used for the bottom layer(s) – and the other kind is the top felt. The underlay is nailed to the decking, while a second underlay is bonded to the first – using either cold applied adhesive or hot applied adhesive. The latter method is the traditional one and requires the use of a gas torch as a heat source. The process itself is not that difficult, but it does require you to carefully read the instructions that should be available for the roofing products, think ahead, measure twice and cut once.

The edges of the felt is where it can get tricky – and extra care and precision is required. These are the places where rain water could potentially enter the roof construction and do a lot of damage, so make sure edges are tightly bonded and executed using the proper construction technique. Exactly how to do that is outside the scope of this article though, but again, any written instructions that came with the roofing felt – should help.

It can be a good idea to have a helper or two, as the felt comes in rolls that are quite heavy and cumbersome. Remember to be safe while working on a roof, and if it is a hot day, drink lots of water too!
