One of the most popular garage roofing materials has to be roofing felt. This probably has to do with the fact that it is quite cheap, not too hard to build and is often used on flat roofs – which are seen on many garages. So what is usually involved in roofing a garage with felt?

Roofing felt is the type of garage roofing material which must be laid out on decking – mostly made of plywood these days. That is because it cannot support its own weight properly. Two types of felt are used, one is called underlay – this is obviously used for the bottom layer(s) – and the other kind is the top felt. The underlay is nailed to the decking, while a second underlay is bonded to the first – using either cold applied adhesive or hot applied adhesive. The latter method is the traditional one and requires the use of a gas torch as a heat source. The process itself is not that difficult, but it does require you to carefully read the instructions that should be available for the roofing products, think ahead, measure twice and cut once.

The edges of the felt is where it can get tricky – and extra care and precision is required. These are the places where rain water could potentially enter the roof construction and do a lot of damage, so make sure edges are tightly bonded and executed using the proper construction technique. Exactly how to do that is outside the scope of this article though, but again, any written instructions that came with the roofing felt – should help.

It can be a good idea to have a helper or two, as the felt comes in rolls that are quite heavy and cumbersome. Remember to be safe while working on a roof, and if it is a hot day, drink lots of water too!

The roof of the home is one of the most important features that should be properly maintained of any building or home. Use of the proper roofing sheets will ensure that the roof does its job and protects the building or home from wind, rain, sun, and snow. There are many different types of materials that can go into the structure of the roof including roof sheets, shingles, and tar. There are a wide variety of roofing sheets to choose from and each type is designed to work best in specific types of climates. The specific materials include plastic, sheet metal and corrugated roofing sheets.

Plastic roofing sheets are designed to work best for temporary, smaller structures. These roof sheets are found in a variety of colors and thicknesses. The durability of plastic roof sheets is dependent on the thickness of the plastic. The thicker sheets are more durable and some of the more expensive, however, they are guaranteed to last longer so their durability will make up for the added cost.

Sheet metal roof sheets, normally made from aluminum, are also recommended for temporary structures. These roofing sheets are thinner and lightweight and are durable enough to withstand extreme weather changes of any kind. Sheet metal roofing materials are fairly inexpensive so they are the most common used for temporary structures. Last but not least is the corrugated roofing sheets. This material works best for permanent structures that are located in areas where the climate consists mostly of heavy rains or snow falls. These roofing sheets are designed with specific patterns which will reflect the accumulation of water or snow on the roof, thus creating enough protection so that the roof will last much longer. The roof is the main part of the home and must be properly constructed and choosing the right type of roofing sheets is the first step to accomplishing this task.

There is a large range of roofing material currently available to all property owners. With the new products currently on the market many traditional roofing methods are being replaced by modern ones. Although thatched and slate roofing can still be seen these options are now either too impractical or too expensive for most buildings.

A large portion of the new roofs constructed will be built with timber, metal, concrete, plastic or shingles. The range of metal roofing materials now available is becoming particularly popular due to their relatively low installation costs as well as very impressive levels of durability. This typically means that future maintenance and repair costs will remain low.

Concrete roofing has many of the same benefits as metal roofing in that it will last for a long time and require a lot less maintenance than other roofing products available. One important consideration relating to concrete roofing is the sheer weight of the roof when it is completed. The building will be under a lot more stress with a concrete roof so additional structural work to support the weight bearing walls may be necessary to ensure the property is safe. This will obvious mean more expenses during installation.

Many homeowners will be tempted to purchase roofing materials that will offer them an initial saving rather than opting for better quality materials which are longer lasting. Your new roof should be considered to be an investment and so the long term costs should be the deciding factor when choosing which roofing style will be best for your home. Metal roofing should receive strong consideration from most property owners due to its excellent long term value achieved with the combination of relatively cheap materials and a long life expectancy. This type of roof will make economic sense for a huge range of individuals.

Much more information relating to different kinds of roofing material can be found at this link.
