Tips For Choosing Wall Sconces
If you are designing a new home, consider using wall sconces as a source for interior lighting. Chosen properly, they are a tasteful and elegant way to illuminate your new living quarters.
The key to selecting the right wall sconce is to take your time and not rush into a decision. You might also want to hire an interior lighting designer to help you decide what will work best in the space that you have.
Sconces have essentially two sides to them. First, they are practical – they are literally there to shed light! And second, they are unique in their aesthetic and design. You want to combine these two elements to maximize the fixture’s value for your home.
Do you have a large room – a living room, say? You might want to rule out a wall sconce. In order to illuminate big spaces, you need to increase the number of sconces and this can sometimes create a crowded look. Sometimes, less is more.
Wall sconces – whether we are talking about colonial American design or Victorian England or something else altogether – almost always do best when they are a bit understated. Two or three of them can turn a regular hallway into a dignified space or serve to highlight a particular piece of wall art.
You should plan on using the light cast by these interior light fixtures in conjunction with light from other sources. In other words, don’t rule out the practical value of a nice table or floor light, or even some recessed lights.
Be sure that the sconce you select matches your interior design. If your house is filled with warm antiques, don’t get a fancy Art Deco sconce just because they were on sale or the builder happened to have some left over from a previous job.
Wall sconces can greatly enhance your home’s beauty without sacrificing your need to have light. But don’t rush into the decision. Take your time, review all your options, and be sure that the choice you make is the one that’s right for you!
