Basement Mold Removal

If you live in an area where basements are prone to flooding every time it rains, then chances are it also houses a great deal of dangerous mold. And if so, it’s time you stop what you’re doing and get to that basement mold removal job done. Otherwise you may end up needing to hire a professional to do it, if it’s not already to that point.

Make sure when you’re doing this job you wear rubber gloves and a respiratory mask and you seal the contaminated materials in a plastic bag. If the item that contains fungus is a must keep and you believe it’s salvageable, you should set it to the side in a sealed bag for the time being until it can be cleaned.

You second step should be to seal in leaks that have accumulated along the walls or other areas. You can’t prevent mold growth if you don’t stop it at its source first!

Next, put those rubber gloves and that respiratory mask back on and clean up the mold using a mold removal product that is safe for both the environment and your lungs. Always follow the instructions listed on the product and repeat if necessary.

Your next step should be to dry up any areas that are wet. Depending on the amount of moisture you can use a wet vacuum for this job, fans or a dehumidifier.

To complete your basement mold removal process, you should use a HEPA vacuum to clean the affected and surrounding areas from top to bottom to ensure that it free from the mold and the spores. If you find there is a lingering musty odor, you may want to sprinkle baking soda on the floors before vacuuming.
